Lakeland Skate Park

Following the closing of the Lakeland’s only skate park, the City engaged S&ME to work with the Lakeland Skaters Alliance, a local advocacy group to create a new skate park for the community. Teamed with Team Pain, S&ME toured other skate parks with City staff and skaters from the local community and developed, through a series of open houses, a design which reflected the desires of the users. The completed skate park boasts features and amenities unique to most skate parks including the shade structure “living rooms” with concrete couches and tables, green space within the skate area, a vending machine/equipment enclosure with custom graphic wrap and an interior/exterior entry plaza to accommodate skaters before and after the park opens.

In addition to the other custom designed amenities, S&ME developed the pedestrian gateway for the $1.3 million skate park. The illuminated entry feature rises above the interior plaza and includes abstract skateboard finials.  The gateway is 14’ tall and designed with mesh panels for climbing vines which will be internally illuminated.
