Pavement

S&ME provides a wide range of pavement testing, analysis, and design services for roadways, airports, parking facilities, greenways, and intermodal facilities. Pavements represent a large portion of transportation infrastructure, and their structural and functional performance are essential for safe and efficient operations and movement of personnel and consumer goods. S&ME engineering services support the entire pavement lifecycle and include in-situ pavement and subgrade testing, subsurface investigation, pavement structural design, pavement smoothness and friction testing, pavement condition surveys, materials selection, pavement mix designs, construction quality control and long term pavement management and rehabilitation strategies.

S&ME’s broad pavement materials and engineering experience, combined with variety of pavement testing capabilities, such as non-destructive pavement testing with Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), high speed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Inertial Profiler, allows our technical teams to effectively analyze and engineer your pavement structures. S&ME has enhanced testing capabilities and advanced technology to provide clients with pavement analysis and designs for new or rehabilitated transportation facilities. S&ME is fully versed in AASHTO pavement design procedures and has been on the leading edge of implementing and utilizing the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG).

S&ME’s geotechnical engineering experience and capabilities support our ability to deliver comprehensive pavement designs and recommendations. Our pavement engineers and geologists conduct pavement coring, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) tests and subsurface field investigations to support pavement design. S&ME material testing laboratories offer a full range of material testing services for soils and pavements to facilitate pavement mix design and forensic analysis efforts.

S&ME has extensive experience in conducting pavement condition index surveys for cities, counties, state agencies and airports. Our engineers and technicians are well versed in several pavement condition survey methodologies such as ITRE, ASTM and LTPP and current asset management software platforms.  S&ME assists our clients in establishing asset management programs in addition to developing and optimizing maintenance and rehabilitation budgets to provide better value to their constituencies.
