S&ME Names Three New Vice Presidents and a Technical Principal

The S&ME Board of Directors appointed three new Vice Presidents and a Technical Principal at their December 2016 meeting. Randy Neuhaus, PE, S&ME President and CEO, announced the appointments at the S&ME Technical Conference held this past weekend.

W. Scott McDonald, PEVice President W. Scott McDonald, PE
Area Manager – Planning & Design, Water Resources

Scott has over 20 years of experience in all phase of water and sanitary sewer consulting engineering, sanitary sewer operations, design and project management. He is well known throughout the East Tennessee, Chattanooga and Knoxville markets where he has developed long lasting relationships with clients and the regulatory agencies. Proficient on operational and strategic issues for municipal water and wastewater systems, he has secured an impeccable reputation with US EPA through his successful negotiations on behalf of his clients faced with Consent Decree Orders. Scott’s depth of knowledge on the funding and operating worlds of municipal utilities has proved beneficial across S&ME’s Business Units.

Bill C. Schwartz, Jr., PE Vice President William (Bill) C. Schwartz, Jr., PE
Area Manager – Construction Services

Bill joined S&ME shortly after graduating from Clemson University and has built a successful 20+ year career at the firm. For many years he led one of S&ME’s most successful locations in the upstate of South Carolina. He was named Area Manager in 2014 and now leads 85 staff in Asheville, Augusta, Columbia, Greenville and Spartanburg generating over $10.5M in annual revenue. In addition, Bill contributes significantly to several companywide initiatives, including the Leadership Development Program as well as Task Forces for project, client and program management. Bill contributes to the engineering community at large through his work with local professional and civic organizations. Based on his reputation with the International Building Code inspection requirements, Bill has served multiple terms on the Construction Appeals Board for the City of Spartanburg where he worked with local architects and engineers to resolve Building Code disputes.

Michael S. Ulmer, PEVice President Michael Ulmer, PE
Principal Engineer/Project Manager — Geotechnical

Michael is a Principal Engineer and Project Manager from the Geotechnical Business Unit in Charleston who has dedicated the majority of his 20+ year career to S&ME, working primarily in geotechnical services but with significant experience in environmental and transportation services as well. His career is marked by his exceptional skill managing very large projects handling the technical, financial and risk aspects while demonstrating the maturity and skills necessary for representing S&ME at the highest levels. He is currently Project Manager responsible for the geotechnical, environmental and future construction-phase services for the South Carolina Department of Transportations’ Port Access Road in Charleston, a $3.4M project involving over 40 staff from 10 offices.

Gregory J. Canivan, PETechnical Principal Gregory J. Canivan, PE
Principal Engineer – Geotechnical

In recognition of the depth of his technical knowledge and acumen in the field of geotechnical engineering, the Board of Directors named Greg Canivan, PE, as a Technical Principal of S&ME. During his 20+ years of service to S&ME, Greg has grown to national recognition in deep foundation design and testing and is the go-to resource within S&ME for deep foundation and soft-ground engineering guidance. Through his coauthoring peer-reviewed technical papers and making presentations, directing training for professional engineers in foundation testing and instrumentation, and participating on advisory groups to government on geotechnical issues, Greg is known for his contributions to the geotechnical community at large as well as to the Geotechnical Business Unit.
