Nashville Business Journal Names S&ME #6 of Nashville’s Largest Engineering Firms

We are excited to be recently named #6 of Nashville’s Largest Engineering Firms by Nashville Business Journal!

Our Nashville office opened its doors in 1989. Since then, the metro area has experienced unprecedented growth that we are proud to have played a key role. S&ME contributes to projects across  land development, healthcare, industrial, aviation, construction, and transportation market sectors.

Our fingerprints are on many of Middle Tennessee’s most iconic developments including the following:

  • Bicentennial Capitol Mall – S&ME has been privileged to be involved with several aspects of this Tennessee State Park and Nashville icon. The Mall is anchored at one end by the State Capitol building, and at the other by the TN State Museum and the TN State Library Archives Building, both of which have been influenced by S&ME’s design and quality capabilities.  S&ME provided civil site engineering and geotechnical services for the Museum, a $160 million building, whose mission is to procure, preserve, exhibit, and interpret objects which relate to the social, political, economic, and cultural history of Tennessee and Tennesseans.   On the other side of the plaza sits the new 165,000 SF, $125 million Library Archives building.  S&ME has supported Turner Construction with construction testing and special inspection services. In addition, our geomatics department provided boundary and topographic surveys for not only the museum and archives building, but also for the larger mall area, including the Farmers’ Market and Visitor Center.

  • June Lake – June Lake is a 780-acre master-planned mixed-use development uniquely blending Commercial, Hospitality, Retail, Residential, and recreational land usesWe are providing preliminary geotechnical investigations, land planning and Civil/Site design services, preliminary engineering, long-range utility planning and strategies for build-out of the project, sewer upgrades, planning and designing domestic water services, roadway re-alignment/design of Buckner Lane, Agency coordination with the City of Spring Hill and TDOT, and bidding assistance for the construction of Buckner Lane. Read more.

  • Vanderbilt Graduate Student Housing  S&ME is currently working as a consultant to Lendlease to develop graduate student housing for Vanderbilt University. The project will consist of housing for approximately 605 beds for graduate and professional students. A major component of our scope is the design of a 72” combined sewer line to be installed within the Broadway right-of-way. The new combined sewer provides additional storage capacity in a grossly under-sized CSO network and required working closely with Metro Water Services to develop the design and materials of construction. In addition, this project required working closely with TDOT since the work will be performed within TDOT right-of-way. S&ME provided Boundary and topographic Surveying, Geotechnical Investigation, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment, Planning, and Entitlement Services, and Site Civil Engineering. The design duration was critical, in order to complete the construction by July 2022, so that students may move in prior to the semester beginning. The design was completed exactly on time.
