University of Tennessee – University Center
S&ME is provided special inspections and construction materials testing services for the second phase of the University of Tennessee’s largest-ever construction project. The facility houses dining facilities, an auditorium, a ballroom, bookstore, recreation areas, and other amenities. The building meets LEED standards. The second phase included an L-shaped building that will connect to the southern rectangular structure. S&ME’s scope of services included:

- Micro-Piles
- Drilled Piers
- Tiebacks
- Concrete
- Masonry
- Structural Steel
- Fireproofing (including Intumescent Coatings)
S&ME’s geotechnical engineers were consulted regarding drilled shaft capacities when end-bearing shafts did not encounter suitable bedrock. S&ME provided opinions regarding drilled shaft capacities based on skin friction of bedrock encountered at the site.
