KIA Motors Manufacturing of Georgia
In 2006, the Georgia Department of Economic Development announced KIA Motors’ expansion into the Southeastern United States. The new facility at West Point, Georgia would include 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing, processing, assembly, and support facilities on a 2,259-acre site. The State of Georgia acquired the land and graded nearly 650 acres to accommodate the project. In April 2007, KIA Motors took possession of the site and began on-site construction activity.
S&ME provided geotechnical engineering, quality assurance observation, and testing services during construction of the plant and support facilities. Construction also included employee parking lots, truck courts, container yards, interior roads, and service drives connecting each building.
Our team performed more than 6,200 observations and evaluations, processed over 15,000 concrete cylinders in the on-site laboratory, and supplied personnel around the clock in support of the construction listed above. During the height of construction activity, our team included 5 engineers and 9 technicians.
