Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Verification On-Call

S&ME was contracted by the SCDOT Office of Materials Research (OMR) Laboratory to provide Construction, Engineering, and Inspections (CEI) HMA Level 1 Technician for HMA Verification services for asphalt resurfacing projects statewide and at its five verification mobile laboratories. Inspection work included obtaining samples of hot mix asphalt from the contractor’s asphalt plant at a frequency requested by the OMR Mobile Lab Supervisor. Services also included assisting Mobile Laboratory Supervisors in performing difficult testing related to hot mix asphalt at the verification lab, including testing of asphalt content, bulk specific gravity, maximum specific gravity, air voids, voids in the mineral aggregate, and gradations.
