Charlotte Area Transit System Lynx South Corridor (Blue Line) Light Rail System

Lynx

The project involved the fast-track construction of a 10 mile, dual-track light rail system from I-485 to uptown Charlotte. The Blue Line also included grade separations through elevated structures over 4 major existing roadways and 15 stations. S&ME provided quality control testing of the roadbed, bridges and track contract. S&ME also provided field density testing, laboratory testing of materials, steel inspection and testing, and concrete sampling and testing. Additional services included embankment settlement monitoring, Cross-hole Sonic Logging (CSL), and Pile Integrity Testing (PIT) on drilled piers. Finally, our team provided environmental services.

S&ME’s work on the South Corridor Light Rail project continued with assignments from the City of Charlotte involving construction materials testing services for the proposed intersection improvements required for the rail project. S&ME performed field density testing for roadway re-alignments, widening, and extensions, concrete testing for curb/gutter and cast-in-place retaining walls, and asphalt testing along South Boulevard at the intersections with Arrowood Road, Archdale Road, Tyvola Road, Sharon Road West, Woodlawn Road, and New Bern Street.
