River Birch Trail Pedestrian Bridge
S&ME has partnered with PAL, an organization that improves health and wellness throughout Spartanburg, South Carolina. Together with PAL, S&ME contributed to the River Birch Trail project; one section of the larger Daniel Morgan Trail System, locally known as ‘The Dan’, connecting Spartanburg and improving accessibility.
The River Birch Trail project consisted of two pedestrian bridges and an elevated boardwalk. The bridges were 30 feet and 100 feet long with approximately 2,300 linear feet of trail extension. The 100-foot-long bridge crosses Lawsons Fork Creek and consists of a single-span aluminum structure supported on deep foundations, while the other bridge was wood-framed. In addition, the project required retaining walls. S&ME performed geotechnical and third-party inspection services for the project, as well as jurisdictional waters permitting services.
